Mex Pipe
I remember as a kid first seeing photos of Mexican Pipe in Surfer Magazine. Perfect waves with an uncanny resemblance to Hawaii's Banzai Pipeline replicated over sand bottom! Pipe without the deadly reef? Seemed too good to be true!
A deep trench offshore funnels swell onto hard packed sand at Puerto Escondido making it a swell magnet with a tendency for offshore mornings; the perfect recipe for producing big hollow waves.
Right now it's small, pretty much as small as it gets from what the locals say. But when it's big don't be deceived about the safety of the sand bottom, it's a wave that requires big boards and serious commitment! Dubious about the comparison to Hawaii's Pipeline? Check this clip here
Looks like Winter is in full swing in Sydney - cold weather and another South swell lining up. It's hot here in Mexico, but can I get some swell now Huey! Pleeeese!
