It's game on at North Steyne this morning! Day one of the Sydney Surf Pro, the beach is brimming with talent and the waves were kind-a pumping at first light for the warm up session. I don't know how they do it but somehow this event seems to turn up at the same time as the waves. A week ago the contest bank was a closeout tangle of seaweed; this morning there's a super contestable sandbank with lefts, rights, ripbowls and shorey's. Take your pick! The local is such a different scene to the norm when the pre-show is in town. Every surfer in the line up was blasting critical turns and blowing plumes of saltwater skyward this morning. It's fun to watch and there's a urgent energy in the water.
