Alfred's Influence

Jordi finding the joy

The swell generated by TC Alfred's and its associated flows finally reached our shores yesterday afternoon as a solid east swell started to filter down the coast. We're on the outer edges of Alfred's influence but it's created a decent easterly fetch that should see plenty of swell on our coast for days and days to come.

With plenty of swell about, what we're really going to need is some favourable winds which aren't looking likely. The forecast is for onshore winds for pretty much the whole swell, let's hope there's the odd "light & variable" moment.

There's a certain collective schadenfreude that surfers feel when the cyclones start spinning off the Queensland coast; a grinning that forms as destructive winds ramp up over the ocean. The Southern Gold Coast surfers have have been basking in the fortune of never-ending swell lines generated by TC Alfred since the weekend; it's been amazing to watch even from the distance of a web cam or social media feed. Now, as Alfred makes its move for the coast, fortunes may take a turn for the worse, let's hope the misfortune is minimal.

To our friends up north, stay safe and dry.
