Bushfire Season
Yesterday was bizarre. I can't ever remember a week where not only are we fixated on the fires currently burning, but bushfires are being forecast like the weather. I guess it makes sense when you have single figure humidity and strong, hot winds blowing across drought affected land and tinder-dry bushland. It's a nightmarish scenario and my thoughts go out to the Firey's on the frontline and those that have lost loved ones and homes. You get the feeling it's not the last time we're going to see the Catastrophic Fire Rating this summer. Can we get a little rain please Huey?
Ironically, like cyclones, the winds that fan the bushfires are the same winds that groom the waves into a favourable form for us indulgent surfers. Yesterday afternoon, under an otherworldly orange haze of smoke and dust, fun little peeler peaked along our stretch of sand... that was until a Southerly buster chopped it to pieces.
