Crazy light out there this morning - wow what a sunrise! Such was the intensity and vivid quality of the light, it became a struggle to capture the full dynamic range of what was unfolding. If you were shooting with your phone and it just didn't quite capture the full scope, don't beat yourself up. Even with the best equipment and all the filters I had in my kit it was a serious challenge.

At this time of the year the sun rises far enough to the north that the first rays of sunshine gets into the southern corner flooding the Manly Life Saving Club and the BnB Swimmers with warm winter light. It only happens for about a month a year but any sun on the skin in these coolers months is well appreciated.

Today's World Ocean Day, a good time to reflect on the beauty, power and fragility of a part of the earth that connects us all. Jump in and go give and get a hug from ol' Mother Ocean... and maybe leave tuna off the menu.
