Set & Rise

Full moon sinking out west

Sunset, moonrise. Moonset, sunrise. It's a cycle that's on repeat with the moon slipping out of time with the sun by an hour every turn of the earth. As surfers, we're intrinsically connected to the moon by the shift of the tides. Once every cycle the moon and sun line up on their respective sides of the earth and create the spectacle of simultaneously sunset and moonrise with a repeat performance in reverse the next morning. It's a wonderful thing to see!

No doubt you caught the moon in your window at some stage last night, hopefully you had the pleasure of watching it rise red out of the ocean. If you missed it, don't worry, it'll happen again tonight, only about an hour later. Tune in, it's way better than what's on the tele...

I'm told today might be the last of the south for a little while. After a run of weeks of small to moderate swell from the south we might be saying bye for now. Get out an enjoy the last of it...
