It's the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year in the summer hemisphere. We've reached our furtherest point in the tilt away from the sun and from tomorrow onward the length of daylight in our part of the world will slowly extend. That's good news for those of us trying to squeeze our morning rituals into these dark winter days.

This morning we had a celebration of colour thanks to high clouds in the northern sky, even if you slept in you'd probably had caught some of the light. In the ocean, the swell's hanging in there and it's come around to SSE adding a little angle to the waves. I reckon it's an improvement on yesterday. There's only 9 hours, 53 minutes and 49 seconds of daylight today - don't waste it!
