John on his 100th wave of the trip

It’s been a couple of weeks since my last post and if you'd thought I’d fallen off the side of the planet you’d be close. The Maldives is a patch of scattered atolls rising out of the Indian Ocean somewhere between the subcontinent and North Africa. It’s a paradise of warm blue water, tropical white-sand islands and some of the funnest reef-pass waves in the world.

The past ten days we’ve been onboard Carpe Vita traversing the Central Atolls. It's my first time in the centrals and I can vouch it's worth the extra time motoring south from Male to put you at arm's reach from the larger surf camps and resorts at the same time giving you a little exposure to south and sou'west swells.

It's been a fun trip surfing a mix of small-to-overhead waves, divine water temps, great food and stellar company. Cheers to Rob & Sham, our surf guides from Perfect Wave, the Carpe crew and the blokes that joined the boat trip - good times!

Heard there's been some great waves back in Sydney while I was away... of course. I hope the rain's stopped too; not sure I can handle a transition back to cold AND wet! Catch up back home soon.
