Pro
The Pro show is back in town and the action got underway this morning with the local wildcard trials. The best surfers from the local boardriders clubs going head-to-head for a single spot in the men's and women's main event and a shot at the title. The Sydney Surf Pro is part of the WSL Challenger Series, an 8 stop tour featuring the best surfers knocking on the door of qualification to the Championship Tour.
While the waves this morning may not have been the most easy on the eye, 3-4ft of punchy ENE swell makes for good competition surf. Unfortunately the trials aren't part of the webcast so the only way to watch is on the beach. Should be a good couple of heats early this afternoon.
As usual, the action on the fringes of the contest area can be just as interesting as the heats. Brazilian surfer Michael Rodrigues was flaring while dialling in his equipment in a bid to re-qualify for the top tier tour. He's had a good run at Manly in the past and will be good surfer to keep an eye on.
Pro Junior starts tomorrow with the Longboard Tour kicking off on Monday.
