Festivities

The Noosa Festival of Surfing 2011 kicked off over the weekend at one of Australia's all-time point set-ups.  It's by no means classic condition for Noosa but First Point delivered some super fun and contestable waves for the first ever finless pro comp.   The way these guys side-slide and spin down the line is pretty unbelievable to watch.  It's all subtle rail control with a mix of glide and slide.   Local favourite Harrison Roach went big in the final but just couldn't quite pull off the huge finless power slide floaters he was going for on his wooden Alaia.  In the end California's Christian Wach took the title back to the US on a fiberglass SeaGlass Project board. Legendary Hawaiian surfer Reno Abellira & the effervescent Barry "Magoo" McGuigan presided over the traditional ho'okupu ceremony with a mixing of Hawaiian and local waters.  There's so much surfing to go down over the 8 days of the festival and a quiver of dry-land events and happenings.  Should be a huge week so stay dialed in.
