Divine Flow Yoga

When Andrew & Eliza recently opened their newly renovated yoga studio in Brookvale, corona was a refreshing beer you drank in Bondi. Fast forward to March 2020 to a time when we need the peace and physical presence more than ever, their yoga studio might be closed to the public but the live-yoga experience continues. Check in with Divine Flow to see how they’re continuing to deliver classes to their community of yogi’s.

MF - Tell us about Divine Flow Yoga, how did it come to be?
DF - The Divine Flow adventure  begins in 2015, when Eliza left her corporate job behind. It was from here that Divine Flow’s mantra became truly rooted to what it is today: a place of healing and growth for all bodies. From 2016, Eliza opened her first beautiful boutique studio in Brookvale on Wattle rd- the first incarnation and DF and a place of solitude and growth for the Divine Flow community.

Co-founders, husband and wife team Eliza and Andrew work together hand in hand through their shared passion of yoga, meditation, beach lifestyle and community. They worked hard together to build the studio you see today in William st. They continue to evolve and explore the many ways they can bring the Divine Flow community through the beautiful practice of yoga, whilst ensuring they do not stray from their combined love of nature and outdoor adventure. Ways such as – taking their first surf and yoga retreat to the Maldives followed by multiple hiking and yoga retreats in the Blue Mountains and Kuringai National Park. Divine Flow is truly something to be a part of!

Who are your customers/community and how do you serve them?
We have grown a large and tight-knit community passionate about yoga, meditation and down for an adventure! We often take a group hiking or enjoy community events at the studio such as live music and yoga as well as special workshops. It is incredibly balanced with both male and female from ages 17-80. We have grown to see students leaning into more mindfulness and strengthening their mental practice. Our senior team have encouraged this by weaving in philosophy to deepen a student’s understanding of this ancient practice in our modern world. It is really important to us that we are approachable and an oasis for people to come in and simply seek refuge in their body and breath, as they hear the sound of the singing bowls and arrive to see the candlelit studio.

How are you continuing to serve your community while we’re all in shutdown? How's that transition being so far?
Like most, we were not prepared to move our physical operating studio to an online platform. But through hard work and late nights, Andrew and I are super proud to have delivered an online portal for our members and the wider community that is directly accessed from our website. Our teachers still have work and we are doing what it is we love best. Whilst It took some big days and nights! We feel like it has been an incredible and (well) worthwhile (it) task to get this up and running and to continue to be of service to our community. The support and feedback has been overwhelmingly beautiful! We really do have a special community here. Now that everything seems to be settling in we have found that staring down the barrel of a camera lense has been quite a learning curve for me and other teachers! But I must say the team is absolutely rocking it! Still bantering, challenging, smiling in the hope their energy and presence is being received on the other end :) Another great thing is brand and businesses coming together to support and collaborate. Because of this we have been shared and now have members in different states, as well as countries as far as Europe. Truly grateful, we can build momentum in our offering and ride this out together.

With everything going on it feels like we're in uncertain and unprecedented times, what are positives you think we can emerge with?
Absolutely, I think there has already been a huge shift in coming together to support one another. The beautiful gift of being human is that we're resilient as a species. We're adaptable by nature and we have a resourcefulness inside ourselves to grow during these times. The opportunity has come to slow down, connect to what is most important, our wellness, the care for others and to share magic moments at home - let them be wild, colourful and memories that will last a lifetime.
